Unless you have been living under a rock, you would know that XXL releases a top 10 freshmen list every year to give credit to the top performing and buzz worthy artists of every year since 2008. Jets representer Curren$y was granted a spot on 2009s list alongside artists such as Wale, Kid Cudi, and Asher Roth. Every year there is heavy anticipation on which artist will make it next. There has already been a leaked list that was discredited by XXL, but what was interesting is that it had some artists that fit the criteria for this year's class. This poses the question -- how inaccurate is the list? Artists like Big Sean , J.Cole and Nipsey Hustle have gotten heavy attention with notable mixtapes, big tour appearances and popular freestyles. One name that was also mentioned was Wiz Khalifa.Wiz started the year off strong with "Flight School which got huge amounts attention and made Datpiff.com's Top Ten Mixtapes of 2009 list with 60,000+ downloads. He and Curren$y also released the highly anticipated 'How Fly' mixtape. Wiz then released 'Burn After Rolling' the same month as his album Deal or No Deal ,which held the top Rap album spot above 50 cent and Birdman on I-Tunes. It doesn't stop there. He is now in the works on a new mixtape named "Kush and Orange Juice" that is set to drop late February early March. These accolades on top of his growing Deal or No Deal tour has set Wiz up to be a highly qualified contender for the upcoming 2010 XXL Freshman class(though he's been in the game for 7-8 years).
